China Punks 23: War Week

Recorded on August 29, 2012

Unfortunately, this week we don’t have any sexy photos or stories of illicit, and perhaps illegal, sexual activity on the mainland.  But we do have something almost better than sex: violence!

That’s right.  We’re in the midst of several different wars, some hot, some cold, online and offline.  Baidu is facing off against Qihoo360 in the online search wars, 360buy is battling everyone except Amazon in ecommerce, and Chinese people are feverish with nationalism and anti-Japanese sentiment over some rocks in the Pacific Ocean.

China Punks 16: Workin’ For Soros

Recorded on June 11, 2012

As our one listener noticed (you know who you are), we did not have a chance to produce an episode last week.  Partly a scheduling error and partly a technical issue, we had to skip last week.

And (congratulations to Charlie), Mr Custer is, as of this writing, formally getting married.  Thus, this episode is either very late or very early (even though it is being posted at the usual time).

Again, welcome everyone from the No Agenda Stream.  You can find the show notes below.

China Punks 15: I’m F****ing Dis Pear, Man

Recorded on May 30, 2012

We’re trying something a little different this week and, as with anything new, there’s always room for error (which we never make).  It took about two days after the recording to get everything together.

You’ll notice that Charlie sounds amazing whereas John sounds just as crappy. Also, if you’re really paying attention, you might notice that both John and Charlie seem telepathic, because we are.

Again, welcome everyone from the No Agenda Stream.  You can catch us “live” every Friday at noon EDT (4pm GMT).

China Punks 2: No snappy title

Note: This originally appeared on Artman Talks as the podcast with No Name #2

We get a better internet connection (kind of) and stay a little bit more on focused when it comes to topics.

We talk about some of the biggest news (no not Euro nonsense) to hit this side of the world: the death of Kim Jong-il. A crazy guy, who apparently wanted to be a movie director, left behind a son only recently declared heir to rule the country. What’s next for North Korea and China? We’re not sure, but we do discuss some of the possibilities. Read the rest of this entry »
